PROPOSED GREEN CORRIDOR

FROM DALLINGTON NORTHAMPTON TO UPTON

Following the stream marking

Dallington /Duston /Harlestone/ Harpole  to Upton Boundary

Introduction.

Regardless of the detailed proposals submitted here, which may prove impractical, perhaps the powers that be could take on board the suggestion that a clearway for walkers, cyclists, water and wildlife should be considered for the water course variously known as Harpole Brook, the Gutter or Dallington Brook for much of its route from Dallington to its Harpole source because a major portion of the route already exists.

This would include adjacent suitable land to provide a green corridor out into the open countryside and provide a circular footpath to the north and west of the town, commencing at Woodside Way Dallington via Brookside Meadows/Bourne Crescent up to Harlestone Firs then across Dyve’s Heath (photo below) under the A428, through Loxton Close field and Slate Pit Plantation field into Alpine way across Port Road Duston then following the newly installed cycle track in old Sandy Lane up to Berrywood Road, Upton.

If a green lane say 20 to 30 metres wide were available in the missing section from Alpine Way to Harlestone Firs as indicated on the map below, this could complement some of the watershed defences installed lower down in Dallington where confining the watercourse inevitably caused problems during periods of heavy and prolonged rainfall.
