Galanthus “Lady Barbara Buchanan”

 

Barbara Stanley married Sir Charles Buchanan her father’s aide de camp continuing the family snowdrop tradition at their marital home in Bonnington Nottinghamshire using stock from Sibbertoft.

This practice has descended to the next generation with their son, Sir Andrew Buchanan and his wife Belinda who have established a large winter garden including an extensive Galanthus collection at Hodsock Priory, Nottinghamshire.

Primrose Barrett married Edmund Warburg who became Curator of the Druce Herbarium at the Department of Botany at Oxford, finally being appointed Reader in Plant Taxonomy and Fellow of New College Oxford in 1964.

Primrose Warburg was among those chosen to collect a quantity of plants and stock from Sibbertoft following the death of Lady Beatrix Stanley.

At her South Hayes home, Primrose established a snowdrop area naming it Sibbertoft Bank at the top of the wood in her garden.

The cultivars Sibbertoft Manor and Sibbertoft Magnet were selections made at South Hayes
